Hakim Ziyech’s request to join PSG on loan has been rejected, and he will not be able to leave Chelsea once the January transfer window closes. Over the past month, the Moroccan international has been widely connected with a transfer away from Stamford Bridge, with a deal looking imminent on deadline day.
Ziyech would suffer a minor financial cost to complete the loan move for the remainder of the season, but the French behemoths were reportedly eager to take him on. The plan, according to sources, failed because the improper paperwork had been submitted, the contracts were past their date, and there might have been tech-related obstacles as well.
Given how events have out, PSG appealed to the LFP (the body that oversees the French football league) to see if they could get the verdict ruled in favor of a loan. There was little chance that the choice would be accepted, which is what happened the next morning.
Ziyech will now likely spend the remainder of the season with Chelsea, perhaps placing him in uncertainty in the wake of a wave of new signings. That is not to imply that he won’t have a chance to join the team, even though it has been difficult for him to do so since coming.
The 29-year-old has recently been playing well and has shown glimmers of the talent that propelled him to the top, leading Morocco to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup. Later, in a few games for Chelsea, he also showed some of his best play, indicating that there may be more to come.
