If his employers have misled him about financial rule violations, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will quit his position.
Due to possible violations of the Premier League’s financial rules, City is the subject of an independent commission investigation. The club is accused of breaking the competition’s rules, which state that “correct financial information that gives a truthful and fair perspective of the club’s financial status” must be provided between the 2009–10 season and the 2017–18 campaign “in the utmost good faith.”
City was banned from participating in European club competitions for two years in 2020 after UEFA determined that they had engaged in “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules between 2012 and 2016. This ban was later overturned, but City has been accused of refusing to cooperate with the current investigation since it began in December 2018.
However, if City is proven to be guilty, manager Guardiola has previously stated that he is willing to walk away from this situation, which might put the Eastlands club in danger.
The Premier League has never before penalized a club for allegedly breaking more than 100 financial rules.
Pep Guardiola’s past statements on Manchester City’s future in light of financial rule controversies.
Guardiola stated in May of last year, “When they are accused of something, I ask them: ‘Tell me about it.
They give an explanation, and I accept it. If you lie to me, I won’t be here the next day, I told them. I’ll be gone, and we won’t be friends any longer.
“I put my trust in you because I have always believed in you completely, and I stand up for the club because of that. When you put something [sponsor] here, it’s overpriced, but for other [clubs], the money is correct, even if it’s higher because it comes from the USA.
We must deal with and combat that, she said. It goes without saying that I continue to be a huge supporter of this organization.
“It’s a circumstance from 2012 or 2013 when I was still residing in Barcelona, and most of the candidates were not present at the time. Of course, I would not like it. I enjoy representing a team that performs tasks correctly and effectively. We want to succeed for our community and our supporters, not to win the Champions League and the Premier League.
