When asked about the absence of Jordan Henderson’s leadership skills in the midfield, Jurgen Klopp emphasized that Liverpool’s bad performance was not the fault of any particular player.
Liverpool has lost 3-0 to Wolves, drawn 0-0 with Chelsea, and been eliminated from the FA Cup by Brighton in their previous three games. Henderson has not started any of those games.
In a thorough press conference held before Monday’s Merseyside Derby, Klopp was questioned about the significance of Henderson’s resurgence.
He responded, “I don’t know why we talk about one player. Everyone is aware of my respect for Henderson ” Henderson is not, has never been, and will never be our problem. He likely participated in 98 percent of the games we had when he was prepared and in good shape.
He participated in every game since he is a crucial player for us.”
After hearing that reaction, Klopp responded, “Henderson’s form hadn’t been up to standard, like the others,” before going on to say, “The key is like all the others.
We wouldn’t miss something from Hendo that much if the rest of it was still present.
Like Virgil van Dijk when he’s performing at his best, all the others are [vital]. Even Virgil didn’t play every game exceptionally well.
“This is a team story, not the story of specific players or staff personnel.”
Diogo Jota, who has been out since suffering a calf injury in October, might play against Everton after missing the previous two.
He has been working out this week, along with Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz, who was also recently sidelined due to injuries.
Klopp says the Merseyside Derby is a game where the Reds “desperately” need three points.
“We did not choose to be in this situation, and we are not content to be here, he continued. But I also believe it’s a chance for us to demonstrate the club’s uniqueness.
“Over the past few years, the lads have given us many memorable occasions. For various reasons, not all of them are clear at this time. Although it is improbable that we didn’t do it, we continue to work to improve the situation.
“But I firmly believe that the better you behave in your worst moments, the sooner you recover from them, and the more success you’ll have since you’re still together.
“Overall, we’ve done pretty well so far, especially with the help of our fans. A derby vibe, a proper atmosphere, and a proper football game are what I’m looking forward to.
