Following the Argentine’s defeat by Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund, Thiago Silva has defended his new teammate Enzo Fernandez.
In a 1-0 victory on Wednesday, the attacker caught hold of a loose ball and sprinted the length of the field, overcoming Fernandez and Kepa Arrizabalaga to score the game’s lone goal. After a prolonged stretch of Chelsea pressure in the second half, Adeyemi’s drive and finish was an easy grab for the home team.
The Blues failed to take advantage of their own corner as Fernandez, who had been left as the last man back, was surprised by Adeyemi’s speed and directness. Adeyemi was quicker to the falling ball than Mykhailo Mudryk and Thiago Silva.
Graham Potter’s team, who has only two victories in their past five games and has only two in their last 14 games, has struggled to score goals this season.
After receiving criticism for his contribution to the goal on social media, Silva, who performed admirably that evening, leaped to Fernandez’s defense.
The World Cup-winning midfielder was featured in a photo on the Brazilian page tntsports with the caption: “Request an Uber! So far, Enzo Fernandez has been seeking Adeyemi.”
Silva responded to the message in response to the publishing from his country, expressing his dissatisfaction “Apparently there is no respect, eh! Improve the quality of your work.”
Incredibly, the defender, who was also Chelsea’s captain that evening, was twice as old as Jude Bellingham, the Dortmund captain. His show of support for Fernandez, 22, is simply one more example of his leadership both on and off the field.
