After beating Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday, Manchester United is only five points off of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
At Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford added two more goals to his impressive streak of goals, while late-arriving substitute Jadon Sancho made it three for United.
Erik ten Hag’s team once more had Wout Weghorst at the front of the line, giving him ten games in a row of straight starts.
Although Weghorst, a striker for the Netherlands, appears to be the Red Devils’ first choice, it appears that United may pass up the chance to keep Weghorst at the club through this summer.
The striker is presently on loan from the league-leading Burnley to Old Trafford, but Football Insider reports that United is unlikely to extend his stay with the team.
After Cristiano Ronaldo left Old Trafford in November, the Dutchman joined United last month.
Weghorst arrived on a six-month loan, and it is believed that United paid £2.5 million to purchase him out of his prior loan to Besiktas of Turkey.
According to reports, the forward’s loan arrangement with United did not include an option or an obligation to buy, and the club has chosen against making an offer to sign him permanently.
The 30-year-old has made ten appearances for United since moving to Manchester, but he has only managed one goal.
Weghorst originally signed for The Clarets from German club Wolfsburg a year ago. However, the striker failed at Turf Moor, netting only two goals, and was loaned out to Turkey last summer.
In 18 games while playing in the Turkish top division, the international from the Netherlands scored nine goals and contributed four assists.
Weghorst has a strong scoring record so far this season, but he has yet to score for United in the Premier League. His lone goal for the team came in the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal last month.
