Despite having a knee injury, Marcel Sabitzer of Manchester United could play for Austria against Estonia on Monday in a Euro 2024 qualifying match.
Sabitzer was in excellent form on Friday night, scoring twice in a qualifier victory over Azerbaijan. Sabitzer, who joined United on loan from Bayern Munich on the final day of the January transfer window, was in excellent form.
The 29-year-old, who also served as his team’s captain that evening, was replaced late in the game and missed Austria’s final practice on Sunday before its match against Estonia as a result.
Despite being optimistic about the midfielder’s ability to recover in time, Austrian manager Ralf Rangnick, who took over as interim manager of United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left last season, suggested that the final decision may be up to the player.
In the end, Ragnick stated, “it is an issue of suffering and pain tolerance for both Marcel and Gernot [Trauner].”
Naturally, we wish Marcel the best of luck, especially following his performance in Linz’s opening match. I’m hopeful that it can work right now, but ultimately, it depends on if Marcel feels prepared for it. I currently assume he will participate.
It was more logical to exclude them from the session once more in order to give them one more day. However, there are enough other contenders.
Sabitzer scored his first goal for United before the break, a deft flicked finish that was a part of the comeback victory over Fulham in their FA Cup quarterfinal match.
With Casemiro still serving three games of a four-game suspension he received after receiving a straight red card against Southampton, United already has issues in the middle of the field.
The Brazilian international will miss league games against Newcastle United, Brentford, and Everton, games in which Sabitzer could play a crucial role.
Christian Eriksen is still recovering from an ankle injury, leaving Erik ten Hag with only Scott McTominay and Fred as alternatives in the middle of the field, though the manager expressed optimism about Dane’s comeback prior to the break.
He won’t be prepared for Sunday’s FA Cup match against Fulham, but Ten Hag predicted that he would be in April.
He is about to return.
