The Athletic claims that negotiations for Lampard’s return are already far along, while The Guardian claims that he may be there for the match against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday at Molineux. He was seen watching the midweek tie with Liverpool from the Stamford Bridge stands.
Graham Potter, who was relieved of his duties on Sunday, will be temporarily replaced by the former Chelsea midfielder until the end of the current campaign.
Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are currently the front-runners for the full-time position, although Chelsea intends to speak with up to five applicants. Prior to being fired and replaced by Champions League champion Thomas Tuchel in January 2021, Lampard served as head coach from July 2019 to January.
After being fired by Everton, a team fighting for survival, in January, Lampard has been without a job. It is still unclear what responsibility Bruno Saltor, Potter’s assistant, would have after being temporarily placed in charge.
When Chelsea faces Wolves away in Premier League action on Saturday, Lampard may serve as the head coach.
