The Arsenal have a largely healthy roster as they get ready for a crucial test of their title-winning credentials, with the exception of Mohamed Elneny and Tomiyasu, who both sustained season-ending injuries.
The health of William Saliba might make or break the Gunners’ chances of breaking their losing streak at Anfield, which dates back to 2012 when Arteta was still a vital member of Arsene Wenger’s midfield.
The France international missed the previous two games after suffering a back injury during the unexpected Europa League loss to Sporting Lisbon last month.
Saliba’s back ailment has prevented him from training, giving Rob Holding the chance to fill in for him, but Arteta was still hoping the 22-year-old would play during the run-in.
But, Arteta declined to reveal the name of the player who has a remote chance of playing against Anfield. Eddie Nketiah is also getting closer to returning to full health after an ankle injury.
‘We have some hope with one of them, maybe he’s able to train tomorrow,’ he stated at his pre-game press conference.
When asked to clarify to whom he was making reference, Arteta responded, “We’ll have to see. I won’t divulge that to you! [who].’
But, Arteta did clarify that the in-form winger has fully recovered from illness and is in contention to start. Bukayo Saka, on the other hand, was only healthy enough to start on the bench against Leeds United last weekend.
