According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Scott McTominay has warned the Man United board that if he is demoted lower down the pecking order, he wants to leave this summer.
Due to the summer transfers of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, the 26-year-playing old’s time at Old Trafford has decreased, and a third midfielder could force the Scotland international to leave the club.
When his career is at its height, McTominay wants to play frequently, and he sees the summer’s addition of another midfielder as a serious danger to his place in the team.
On Friday, April 7, sources close to Football Insider said that Man United now wants to sign Marcel Sabitzer, who is currently on loan from Bayern Munich, to a permanent contract.
Given that Sabitzer has occasionally been selected ahead of McTominay this season, his presence could be the final nail in McTominay’s coffin.
McTominay joined the club’s youth academy in 2002 and has stayed there for more than 20 years.
With his advancement through the youth system and achievement of his professional debut in 2017, McTominay’s position within the team has expanded.
This season, he has played 34 times for United in all competitions, but just 1,028 of those games have been in the Premier League. McTominay, on the other hand, participated in 2,392 minutes of Premier League action last year.
But with two goals for the Red Devils this year, McTominay has already matched his goal total from the previous campaign.
