With his goal giving Manchester City a commanding 3-0 lead over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Erling Haaland smashed yet another record.
At the Etihad Stadium, the hotshot Norwegian set himself up with a header from John Stones before volleying the ball home from close range.
In doing so, Haaland scored his 45th goal of the year, making it the most goals he has ever scored in a single season for a Premier League club.
The previous record holders, Mohamed Salah and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who both achieved it while playing for Liverpool (2017–18) and Manchester United (2002–03), respectively, are tied with him on 44 goals following his two goals against Southampton last weekend.
But, Haaland is now on his own in the world, and City still has at least 11 games remaining to play this campaign—15 if they make the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead on April 19 in Bavaria after a spectacular strike from Rodri and a header from Bernardo Silva. City appeared poised to finish the job at that point.
