Maguire has made just seven Premier League starts and a total of fifteen games this season, and he has quickly slipped down the pecking order under manager Erik ten Hag. Maguire has made 30 appearances this season across all competitions, although his last 90-minute outing was the devastating 3-0 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League quarterfinal second leg in April, which saw United lose 5-2 on the overall score.
Maguire’s own United career has mostly stagnated despite the club going through something of a rebirth this season, having already won the Carabao Cup in February and reached the FA Cup final where they will play arch rivals Manchester City.
He continues to play regularly for Gareth Southgate’s England team, but at the club level, Ten Hag appears to favour Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and even Luke Shaw at centre back.
As a result, despite the 30-year-old’s contract having two more years left, it appears the Red Devils are willing to let him go for a lower price in order to assist his leave.
Football Transfers reports that United will take offers for Maguire’s services of £40 million, or almost half of what they spent Leicester City to get him to Old Trafford in 2019.
And it appears that West Ham and Tottenham are potential suitors among the teams rumoured to be interested in the England international.
Tottenham’s ability to make a serious move, meanwhile, is said to depend on whether Brendan Rodgers, who was fired by the Foxes in early April, becomes manager of the north London team in the summer.
Arne Slot, the head coach of Feyenoord at the moment, appears to be the front-runner for the Spurs position, which would make Maguire’s potential departure less likely.
In contrast, it appears like Harry Kane will still be moving to Old Trafford during the upcoming transfer window.
Although Andy Cole, a former United striker, believed that signing Kane would be a mistake, the £100 million striker still has one year left on his current deal and is still very high on Ten Hag’s shopping list.
In order to guarantee a berth in the Champions League for the upcoming season, United must win their final three Premier League games against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham.
Then, on June 3, they play City at Wembley with the chance to win both the domestic cup and the match.
