Pep Guardiola has been dubbed the best manager in football right now by Rio Ferdinand.
In addition to being on the verge of winning their fifth Premier League title in as many seasons, Manchester City’s manager expects his team to compete in the forthcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals.
The City manager has received huge acclaim from one analyst in particular following the Manchester club’s 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the middle of the week that booked their spot in the Champions League final.
Ferdinand extols Guardiola
Ferdinand discussed Guardiola and his possible status as the greatest manager of all time on BT Sport’s Early Kick-Off show.
I believe he’s the best, he said. It has a somewhat Rain Man-esque quality to it. He never rests and is constantly seeking something.
“You could imagine that it wouldn’t be too crazy to assume that he’s having dinner with his family, they’re talking, and he’s just sitting there shifting things around, rearranging the peas on his plate, and then he simply says, ‘okay, I’ve seen something,’ and the following season he’s doing that.
“It wouldn’t surprise you because that’s just the way he is, but he’s so sure of himself, but he’s also so fixated on what he does, and I think all the greats have that, and he does. Pep Guardiola is the only manager in the area at the time, to my knowledge.
Guardiola has achieved many firsts while leading City, including reaching 500 Premier League points in less games than any other manager to do so (231)—further demonstrating what a terrific manager the 52-year-old is.
