Kevin De Bruyne has been named by Alan Shearer as one of the best players in the most recent Premier League season.
The midfielder played in 32 of City’s 38 games during the most recent season, winning his sixth league championship.
One analyst in particular has recently given the Belgian high appreciation for his performances during those games.
Shearer sings De Bruyne’s praises.
Shearer had this to say about De Bruyne in a recent video on the official Premier League website when he discussed his Team of the Season.
A center-forward’s fantasy, he remarked. It is understandable why [Erling] Haaland scored so many goals using his passing.
“I just think his ability to find that pass, whether it’s a cross into the box or whether it’s a ball in behind, has been absolutely magnificent.”
The 31-year-old finished the season with more assists (16) than any other player in the division, in addition to his seven goals in the league this season.
De Bruyne has the highest rate of shot-generating actions (6.55) and goal-producing actions (1.15) per 90 minutes in the league, underscoring even further how remarkable the City star has been this season, particularly in terms of creating opportunities to score goals.
The midfielder, who City paid £54 million to sign in 2015, finished the season with a strong season rating of 7.58/10 from WhoScored, behind only four other players in Europe’s top five leagues.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Shearer included the Belgian in his Team of the Season and had such heavy praise for him.
Moving forward, with Guardiola’s side gearing up to take on Manchester United in the FA Cup this weekend and then Inter Milan in the Champions League final next weekend, if De Bruyne can help his side win those games, it would surely seal what would be the best season of his career with the Citizens.
