According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Manchester United has been in touch with Atalanta of Serie A over a prospective trade for Danish attacker Rasmus Hojlund. John Murtough, the director of football, has been in charge of them for Manchester United.
Randal Kolo Muani of Frankfurt is another player the team is keeping an eye on, as has long been known. According to The Athletic, there are two possibilities. The one considered to be most likely is Hojlund.
Sports Entertainment Group (SEG), which also represents Erik ten Hag of Manchester United, is Hojlund’s agent.
Rasmus Hojlund only moved to Atalanta from the Austrian team Sturm Graz last summer. With 8 goals and 4 assists in 31 Serie A games this season, Hojlund has seen a spectacular ascent.
Recent performances by Hojlund during the international window in March were actually what brought him to public attention. Rasmsu Hojlund was recalled to the Denmark national team for the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying round. On March 23, Hojlund scored three goals against Finland in his debut for his country. Three days later, he backed that up by defeating Kazakhstan with a hat trick.
Even Hojlund recently acknowledged that he is a Manchester United fan:
I won’t deny being a huge Manchester United fan now that you’ve asked. Therefore, it would be one of the main things for me personally. [Source]
Additionally, the Manchester Evening News exclusively disclosed that Erik ten Hag had video talks with Rasmus Hojlund, indicating that the player will soon be moving.
Hojlund has been compared aesthetically to Erling Haaland of Manchester City since both players are powerful forwards who can bulldoze their way towards the goal.
Rasmus Hojlund is an interesting alternative for Manchester United since he would surely be a less expensive signing than Victor Osihmen and Randal Kolo Muani. The Athletic reports that Manchester United will likely sign both a seasoned and a youthful striker this summer as the team strives to fulfil its title aspirations.
