As Tottenham Hotspur reportedly prepares to make their first offer for the 26-year-old, Darren Bent has stated that James Maddison would be qualified to replace Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City.
In response to the news that Ilkay Gundogan had left Cityzens for Barcelona on a free transfer, Bent made his comments on talkSPORT.
It does seem like Tottenham will step up their effort to recruit James Maddison soon. Spurs actually expect to complete a deal for the attacking midfielder this week, according to sources from The Telegraph on Monday.
Bent believes Maddison, a target for Tottenham, may take Ilkay Gundogan’s spot at Manchester City.
Leicester is seeking $60 million. Tottenham, though, is hoping that a proposal containing a £40 million initial payment will persuade the Foxes to part with their talisman.
There is no question about Madison’s caliber. However, it’s possible that we haven’t yet seen the best of the England international.
Bent was questioned about Maddison’s potential to take Gundogan’s job at Manchester City. He may succeed at the Etihad Stadium, according to the former Tottenham striker.
It might take Maddison some time to adjust if he gets there, in my opinion. In Pep’s system, I believe it does. But once he had it, he would be more than capable of playing for Manchester City, the player told talkSPORT.
He possesses the necessary qualities, skills, and abilities. He can sprint, put in a lot of effort, and spot a pass. There is no reason he couldn’t accomplish it.
If Manchester City did make a move for Maddison, it would be unexpected. However, the remarks may serve to emphasize why Tottenham would be prudent to move quickly.
Maddison has the potential to succeed playing for any Premier League team. Following that, Spurs must be on guard against another team making a last-ditch effort to steal him away.
Evidently, Maddison would already be through the door if Tottenham felt they had to sign him regardless of the cost. Therefore, they won’t just blow all their money on hiring him.
But Maddison would be a fantastic acquisition. And Tottenham must now concentrate on completing a move.
