Edu, the sporting director of Arsenal, has almost confirmed the team’s summer transfer plans on social media.
The north Londoners announced on Wednesday that they have completed a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea for £60 million plus $5 million in add-ons. The Gunners wasted little time thereafter.
West Ham United captain Declan Rice has received three offers for him, two of which have been turned down by the east London club. A third offer, worth an initial £100 million with $5 million in add-ons, has subsequently been accepted in principle. The final details on how the fee will be paid in installments are reportedly close to being finalized by Monday, and personal terms are not expected to be a problem given that the player has always preferred a move to the Emirates Stadium.
In addition, Arsenal’s pursuit of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is progressing. The two teams are reportedly close to finalizing a deal worth about £40 million. This kind of behaviour has enthused Gunners fans, with one supporter uploading a video of well-known rapper Snoop Dogg saying: “This (expletive) don’t (sic) miss” to Instagram.
The caption for the image reads, “Edu signing Havertz, Rice and Timber in 1 week.” Edu then replied to the message with five laughing emojis, clearly implying that the scenario described in it is indeed likely to occur.
In May, the club’s Brazilian transfer chief discussed the summer transfer plans, outlining the rationale behind potential targets. He remarked, “It’s identifying very well where we can improve,” in an interview with ESPN Brazil.
“If they are in solitary, solo positions, if they are in groups, if they are in the “last third,” as we like to say, if they are in midfield, defensive section. This diagnosis is already made because (Mikel) Arteta’s playing style is already extremely evident to us.
