Manchester United are maxing out their wage budget, as Erik ten Hag’s busy summer of new contracts and new signings continues
David De Gea would no longer be the club’s highest-paid player under a new contract that Manchester United is close to agreeing to.
The Spaniard, who signed a new contract under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in 2019, has been the club’s highest-paid player for years, but it appears that he may leave this summer after talks about his future. According to reports, Manchester United would like to replace him with a different goalkeeper.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Marcus Rashford is expected to sign an astounding contract of £375,000 per week in the next weeks, making him the team’s biggest earning.
Romano claimed in his CaughtOffside column that Paris Saint-Germain were keeping an eye on the situation but that the forward was about to put pen to paper.
The Italian acknowledged that “it’s technically not done yet; some details need to be clarified soon, but talks are very advanced.”
Since there have been rumors regarding Rashford’s future for some time, United will be happy to lock him up, but they are still hunting for another forward to team up with him.
Rasmus Hojlund, a forward for Atalanta, is reportedly the target, according to Corriere dello Sport in Italy. There is a chance that the budget for another hitman has been cut given that Rashford is expected to make a lot from his new United contract. If so, that would explain why Hojlund, who is valued at £39 million, is being lined up as opposed to a nine-figure acquisition like Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen.
United are also set to bring in Mason Mount from Chelsea, while moves for a centre-back could yet materialise, too.
Rashford is worth €80 million by Transfermarkt.
