Dean Jones, a journalist, claims that after bringing in Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber, Arsenal will stop bringing in new players.
What is the nature of the Arsenal transfer window?
The Gunners, who finished second after a title fight with Manchester City and made their first appearance in the Champions League since Arsene Wenger took over as manager of the team, have aggressively assaulted the transfer market in an effort to go forward.
The switch to Rice has probably been Mikel Arteta’s biggest move this summer. After weeks of tortuous negotiations, the two clubs ultimately came to an agreement on a £105 million fee for the English international, who will now undergo a physical. The West Ham captain guided his team to their first-ever European championship. The 24-year-old apparently also attracted Manchester City’s attention, but he will play his football at the Emirates in the upcoming campaign.
Jones, however, stated on The Football Terrace’s ‘Done Deal’ show that Arsenal would have to wait until the “second phase” of the window for any additional arrivals, particularly in the wide areas, since the emphasis right now is on reducing the squad by making some departures.
There is still uncertainty about who they will choose for the right flank position because the emphasis has been on getting these first three players through the door. So let’s wait until the Arsenal team starts to get cleaned up, or I should say, go through a mini-clearance.
“And then we’ll see, once that second phase is ready to be activated, if Arsenal can go for those players in the wide areas.”
Who will Arsenal let go this summer?
In an effort to recuperate some of the $208 million they have already spent, the club plans to consider bids for a number of players during this transfer window.
The midfielder Granit Xhaka is one among the players that has already departed the Emirates. The 30-year-old has signed a £21.4 million contract to play for German team Bayer Leverkusen. The international player from Switzerland played for the Gunners for six seasons, appearing 297 times in all competitions and serving briefly as club captain.
According to reports, Thomas Partey, his midfield partner from the previous season, may possibly leave the club this summer due to interest from Juventus. Partey had the greatest season of his Arsenal career the previous time around, appearing in 45 games for club and country while earning a 6.92 WhoScored rating. However, Rice’s arrival and rumours that Southampton’s Lavia is being considered by the club may limit the Ghanaian’s playing time.
This summer, a number of Arsenal defenders could leave the club, with Scottish full-back Kieran Tierney receiving the most attention as a possible transfer to Newcastle United. The 26-year-old, who only made six league starts last season, has battled to displace Oleksandr Zinchenko as the starting left-back. He is allegedly conducting meetings this week with the manager to determine his future at the team.
Another player who might quit the team this summer is the Englishman Rob Holding, according to writer Ed Aarons. The center-back is predicted to leave either permanently or through a loan swap this summer. Last season, Holding made 24 appearances for the team and saw more action after William Saliba’s season-ending injury.
Although it is difficult to predict how much money Arsenal will generate from these player transactions, the club will be hoping that it will be sufficient to finance the “second phase” of their already successful summer.
