Ten Hag to “reopen talks” with Goncalo Ramos
With the start of the Premier League season just a few weeks away, Erik ten Hag will need to move quickly to strengthen his team as Manchester United has only added one summer player so far during this transfer window, Mason Mount joining from Chelsea.
Strengthening his attacking options appears to be at the top of the Dutchman’s mind as the first team needs reinforcements across all positions. United has made a players-plus-cash offer to Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund, but the Serie A club is demanding a cash-only offer, setting up a dispute that could drag on for the next few weeks.
Should a deal for the Dane fall through, may the Old Trafford team consider other options?
Goncalo Ramos is once again being tracked by Man Utd.
The Red Devils may try again to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti. Galetti told GIVEMESPORT:
“Manchester United is seeking for a new striker. Goncalo Ramos is one of the names on the shortlist right now.
“The English club is prepared to resume talks with Benfica after a brief period of silence. The Portuguese team’s stance is pretty firm at the moment; the player’s price is set at his €120 million (£102 million) release clause.
“Manchester United will nonetheless attempt to determine the room for bargaining to lower the price, even though there is not currently much confidence.”
Will Manchester United sign Goncalo Ramos?
A move could happen this summer given the need for a striker ahead of the 2023–24 season and the fact that they only managed 58 Premier League goals the previous season.
Ramos might excel at Old Trafford if given the chance to do so under Ten Hag, and he could establish a dream pairing with Marcus Rashford. Hojlund seems to be the major goal.
The Englishman was in superb form last season, contributing 41 goals (30 goals and 11 assists) across all competitions. He also ranks in the top 8% of all European leagues for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 minutes (6.92), indicating that he does frequently find himself in scoring positions.
Ramos would profit from the 25-year-old machine’s ability to create chances from the left wing as he was third on the United team in league assists with five and sixth in big chance creation with five.
Ramos is ranked in the top 1% for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.75) and the top 7% for total shots per 90 (3.87) throughout the next main eight competitions on the continent. In contrast, his 27 goals during the previous campaign show that he is undoubtedly skilled in front of goal, and Ten Hag needs a striker with this kind of talent.
Rashford was either used as a center forward or on the left wing last season, but it is obvious that his greatest position is on the outside, where he scored 16 of his goals in 2022–23.
Ramos would be in charge of the line, which would relieve pressure from the United gem, which was evidently plentiful during Ten Hag’s first campaign.
Josh Bunting, a journalist, once praised the young forward as “strong” and a “top potential” last year, and there is little question that he is prepared to advance to playing for a team like United.
It will be interesting to see who Ten Hag is able to get to Old Trafford over the coming weeks, and Ramos might not only be the perfect replacement for Hojlund but also the ideal teammate for Rashford going into the next season.
