Man Utd has the crazy idea of signing Sevilla star Yassine Bounou as backup goalkeeper
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Manchester United has the ridiculous idea of buying Yassine Bounou from Sevilla to serve as Andre Onana’s backup custodian.
Onana‘s departure from Inter Milan was officially announced by the Red Devils earlier today. Erik ten Hag, the manager, expects the Cameroonian star to be an undisputed starter.
Due to Dean Henderson’s expected departure, United may now choose to invest money in a backup custodian. TuttoMercatoWeb also claims that the club is considering an audacious approach for Bounou.
The Moroccan may not want to serve as Onana’s assistant, making a transaction ‘tough’ to complete at the moment, but the Italian outlet insists that it is ‘not impossible’ to convince him to go.
United is unlikely to sign Bounou this summer.
When Jose Mendilibar took over as manager of Sevilla, the 32-year-old lost his starting position to Marko Dmitrovic toward the end of the 2022–23 league season.
Though he continued to start frequently in the Europa League, it was his two penalty saves in the shootout triumph over Roma that decided the match.
Currently, Bounou is looking for a club where he can play frequently. Sevilla, which is having financial problems, is willing to sell him for about €20 million.
The Moroccan would be a fantastic addition to the team as Onana’s backup, but it seems extremely unlikely that United will shell out €20 million for him.
Considering that Bounou is still at the peak of his goalkeeping career, he could want to play for a different squad where he can count on getting playing time all season.
Due to this, we do not believe that an agreement will be reached. Agents are presumably driving the speculative ideas. The shot-stopper is receiving bids thanks to United’s reputation.
