For a total of £95 million this summer, Jurgen Klopp has already acquired Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, a midfield combo.
However, the Reds manager is in serious need of reinforcements as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are anticipated to leave Anfield for Saudi Arabia this summer.
In recent weeks, Ryan Gravenberch, Cheick Doucoure, and Sofyan Amrabat had all been mentioned as possible alternatives for the team.
Liverpool, though, appears to have advanced significantly in their chase of Lavia when Romano revealed they have spoken to Southampton about a transfer.
What exactly did Romano say?
In a tweet that read: “Understand Liverpool have approached Southampton for Roméo Lavia – negotiations on the player side have been underway for more than one month,” Romano revealed on Monday afternoon that Liverpool had contacted the Championship team.
“Jason Wilcox is currently in charge of negotiations for Southampton and wants a £50m package agreement.
Lavia continues to be among Liverpool’s top contenders.
The information was released soon after supporters believed they had discovered a possible transfer hint regarding a private plane that flew to the team’s training camp in Germany last week.
Lavia has allegedly “agreed on personal terms” with the Reds despite becoming “a little irritated” with Liverpool’s protracted pursuit, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
