Adidas, the company that makes Manchester United’s uniforms, claims that they have not spoken with the team about Mason Greenwood’s potential return.
Other reports on Friday night stated that the 21-year-old, who is currently on United’s suspension list, had a potential comeback cleared by the sportswear giant.
On February 2, accusations against Greenwood of attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault were withdrawn. He has consistently refuted the charges.
Since January 2022, Greenwood hasn’t appeared on the pitch for United, and the team is presently undertaking an internal inquiry that hasn’t yet been completed. Adidas has referred to rumors that it has spoken with United about Greenwood’s potential return as “inaccurate,” claiming it has no input with selections of players or staff.
Adidas issued the following statement, which was quoted by The Daily Star: “After erroneous and speculative media reporting, we must clarify that Adidas has had no negotiations with Manchester United over any member of their playing group.
We do not influence any choices made by the club regarding any player or employee.
This comes four months after Nike, Greenwood’s former sponsor, clarified that it had not renewed ties with the player after alterations had been made to his Instagram account.
Earlier this month, the Manchester Evening News revealed that Atalanta was interested in taking Greenwood on loan for next season.
Erik ten Hag responded that he had discussed the subject with the board when asked for an update on Greenwood during United’s US trip.
It’s a club decision, and while I offered my opinions, we all have to accept it, he stated.
Ten Hag said when asked if he would prefer to keep Greenwood: “I can’t say so much about it but I offered my view about it, so let’s see what’s going to happen.”
