In the race to capture Kylian Mbappe, Chelsea reportedly joined Real Madrid and Liverpool. With his contract at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire at the end of the upcoming season, the 24-year-old forward’s future there is becoming more and more questionable.
Mbappe has two weeks to sign a new contract with Les Parc des Princes or he would be sold, according to Nasser Al-Khelaifi earlier this month. After four weeks have passed, neither the France international nor a new team has been found by the player.
The Blues have reportedly entered the hunt to sign Mbappe this summer because he is anticipated to leave either this summer or next in search of greener pastures. In order to get the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea is reportedly trying to negotiate a player-plus-cash deal.
The article claims that after having direct negotiations with Todd Boehly about a prospective transfer, the Parisians have boosted the West Londoners’ efforts to sign the forward. According to the Daily Record, Real Madrid and PSG have not held any discussions since Mbappe was put available for sale for €250 million (£214 million).
Earlier this week, Mauricio Pochettino was asked if he would like to reunite with the striker, and Neymar, at Chelsea. The Blues boss said: “I think in our past we were at Paris Saint Germain and with Kylian and think I need to be conscious that I cannot talk.
“Everything you talk is too much noise. It is a situation that is very delicate and one they need to fix in Paris with Kylian. For our side, I have nothing to say. We are working on our reality, our reality is different. From my side, nothing to say, only to support them.
“I’m hoping they can come up with something that works for all sides. As a former player, captain, and coach, I have a special affection for this club. We have a great relationship with Kylian, and I hope they can come up with something that benefits both parties.
Boehly may have begun negotiations with PSG, but with Champions League football not available this season, it is unclear whether Chelsea can compete with Real Madrid and Liverpool.
