After completing his loan transfer from Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, Sergio Reguilon announced his new club, Manchester United, on Instagram.
The left-back from Spain was acquired by the Red Devils as a temporary replacement for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who were both injured.
There is a break provision in January that could force Man United to return him to Spurs even if the agreement is a straight season-long loan (with no cost or option to buy) until June 2024.
Reguilon has ambitions to impress manager Erik ten Hag with his performances and possibly gain a permanent move. The club will also pay for his wages.
The 26-year-old expressed his happiness in joining Manchester United, and his international teammate and former Red Devils goalie David de Gea responded in the comments area.
After his contract at Old Trafford expired earlier this summer, the Spanish goaltender quit the team and is still looking for a new team.
Despite the way his exit was handled, De Gea remains a supporter of Manchester United and is happy to see his fellow countryman join the team.
Reguilon is expected to make his debut on Sunday against Arsenal after signing before the deadline at midday.
The left-back has already practiced with his new teammates, according to Ten Hag, and if the manager decides he can provide something better, Diogo Dalot may be replaced in the starting XI.
Alvaro Fernandez’s loan deal to Granada CF was finalized last night, leaving Reguilon as the only primary left-back available for selection at Man United at the moment.
He needs to establish his value after losing favor at Tottenham and spending the previous season on loan at Atletico Madrid, but he possesses the skills and abilities to accomplish so.
