Nowadays, Manchester City has a reasonably large team with a variety of players who are capable of scoring goals with their heads.
Unquestionably, Erling Haaland poses the greatest threat of all.
Since joining the team, the Norwegian has scored quite a few headed goals, which was maybe to be expected given his 6’5″ frame. However, at Borussia Dortmund, he did not receive many with his head.
However, there are still others, like Rodri and Ruben Dias.
Considering that he is not the tallest, Nathan Ake is also an excellent aerialist.
However, it appears that City may now be facing a fresh aerial threat.
Josko Gvardiol conducts a lecture in heading during Man City training
In preparation for their match against Fulham, City has now made some video from a training session last week available.
The City defenders are exercising their heading at around 6:50.
And one man in particular sticks out: recent addition Josko Gvardiol.
The skill Gvardiol possesses with the ball in his hands has received a lot of attention. The Croatian player excels at making line-breaking passes in particular.
But it turns out that despite not being particularly tall for a defender, he poses a considerable aerial danger.
In the video that City made public, Gvardiol scores four consecutive headers.
The first one is a shot that rebounds across the goal and lands precisely in the bottom corner. He scores with a header at the near post, once more in the corner, on the stretch.
The third goal was a fairly straightforward header that went into the far post’s bottom corner. The fourth goal came from a diving header that was quite remarkable and sent the ball into the far top corner. It was a spectacular display of athleticism.
Rodri and Dias are among those who can be heard applauding.
Josko Gvardiol has a keen eye for goal.
Given how this City tape is edited and cut up, it’s possible that Gvardiol, who Ian Wright believes Liverpool should have targeted, had some headers that missed the net.
However, there is no denying the impressiveness of Gvardiol’s four headed goals.
When the ball is in the air, he most definitely has a very good eye for goal.
Naturally, there was no opposition player marking in this video. The guys were trying to score as many goals as they could as crosses were pouring in.
However, the video implies that there is a significant likelihood that Gvardiol will be scoring if he can reach the ball in the air in the opponent’s box.
It might not take long before we see him scoring in this way because of how effectively he leaps and how much power he uses.
