Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has singled out Darwin Nunez for praise, stating the forward is in a good place at the moment.
Nunez, who joined Liverpool in a club-record deal from Benfica last summer, drew criticism for his goalless campaign last year.
The 24-year-old Reds star has been impressive lately, though, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists.
Against LASK in the Europa League, Nunez was excellent, scoring and providing an assist.
“The two most unbelievable goals”
Nunez has excelled in training this year, according to Klopp, who was speaking to the Liverpool media team about the forward.
The Uruguayan forward scored two “incredible” goals against Newcastle, according to the Reds manager, who also praised his “absolutely insane” efforts.
Klopp exclaimed, “He’s good, really good.” He is currently having a great time and is thoroughly enjoying his game, which is okay.
“As a striker, your only issue is when you have no opportunities.
He gets openings and chances, and recently he scored against Newcastle the two most unbelievable goals I’ve seen in a very, very long time. It was simply insane.
“In training, you can sense that he is in a happy mood.
“Whether he has already scored or not is unimportant at the moment. It’s crucial for a striker to recognise these situations where they play well but don’t score so they can just keep going and things will work themselves out.
In our opinion
All too frequently, when things don’t go their way, people are ready to criticise players. That may be the case if a player experiences a slump in performance for a few games, let alone for a few months or more.
Nunez has taken some time to get comfortable at Anfield. He’s finally playing well now, which is encouraging for the upcoming months as he improves as a player and grows accustomed to the Premier League.
