David Raya of Arsenal talks about his healthy rivalry with Aaron Ramsdale, highlighting how it has improved both players’ goalkeeping abilities and the team’s performance.
David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal are engaged in a heated but fruitful rivalry for the starting goalie spot.
Since joining Arsenal at the end of the summer, Spanish international Raya has cemented his place as the team’s first-choice keeper. The debate about who should be the undisputed number one has been triggered by this internal rivalry, but Raya sees this rivalry with Ramsdale as a catalyst for development.
“I believe that battle—I wouldn’t say battle—is just pushing each other in training and attempting to support each other,” Raya remarked. We are who we are and what we do when we observe in each other during training that we can support one another. That is the GK union as it appears to the outside.
He also commended Ramsdale’s attributes, hoping for cooperation and respect from all sides. He is an excellent goalie as well as an excellent teammate. I’m hoping he feels the same way about me! We are striving for the same place as a team.
