Regarding Ryan Gravenberch’s hamstring issue, Liverpool is waiting on more information.
In the agonising 0-0 Premier League tie between the Reds and Manchester United, the midfielder was substituted off. After Gravenberch was substituted in the 61st minute of the match, Jurgen Klopp had to decide how long the summer signing from Bayern Munich could be away.
“We shall see,” stated the manager of Liverpool. It was not ‘bam,’ since they informed me right after the game that it had become worse during the game. He was a little uncomfortable and took a while to appear.
Though we had hoped it would pass, it didn’t. There was a very fierce run with the ball that resulted in a collision at the 18-yard line. We have three more games in the next ten days, so I’m not sure if he’ll play in any of them or not. I hope it’s not that serious. We must perform a scan, so we shall see.
Undoubtedly, Liverpool is experiencing a growing number of injuries during what Klopp has called the most demanding time of the season. The Reds may be without four midfield players on Wednesday due to their Carabao Cup quarterfinal matchup at Anfield against West Ham United and their Premier League top-of-the-table matchup at home against Arsenal. Due to a serious cut he received during the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United earlier this month, Alexis Mac Allister is still out of action and hasn’t played in the last three games. Long-term absentees Thiago Alcantara (hip) and Stefan Bajcetic (calf) are joined by Diogo Jota (muscle), Andy Robertson (shoulder), and Joel Matip (ACL).
To make matters worse for Liverpool, Ben Doak was also in danger of being hurt a few hours prior to the United draw. The winger did not play against the Reds Devils, despite playing for Klopp’s team in the Europa League’s 2-1 loss to Union SG. Rather, Doak played Chelsea at the AXA Training Centre with the under-21 team. But in the 28th minute, the Scotland under-21 international was substituted by player-coach Jay Spearing. Bobby Clark’s goal late in the game gave Liverpool a 2-1 victory.
Doak is one of the club’s most promising prospects and has made six senior appearances this season. He may not play against West Ham, though, as his fitness must now be evaluated following his early withdrawal for the young Reds.
