Toni Kroos has ruled out returning to previous club Bayern Munich as he enters the last months of his Real Madrid deal
Toni Kroos, the 34-year-old won three Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokal cups, and the 2012–13 Champions League during his seven-year tenure with the Bavarian powerhouses from 2007 to 2014.
As his contract nears its conclusion, Kroos’ ten-year stay in the Spanish capital may be coming to an end. Despite his continued success at Real Madrid, he is now among the most decorated football players of all time.
The German continues to be a mainstay in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, having made 31 appearances across all competitions. However, Madrid appears to be focusing on developing its young players, which includes Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Endrick, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Rodrygo.
Amidst speculations of contact from Thomas Tuchel, Kroos was asked if a return to Bayern Munich was feasible in an interview with media prior to Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 matchup with RB Leipzig. The playmaker categorically rejected that Munich would be his next stop.
“I expected a lot of questions about my future today, but not this one,” he said with a grin. Whether or not it’s true, I always feel quite honored when someone wants me to be a part of their team. However, I can state with certainty that this will not occur in this instance.
Regarding his future goals and the possibility of extending his contract in Madrid, Kroos continued, saying, “I always tell you the truth, and the truth is I don’t know.” I’m considering my options right now. I haven’t made up my mind yet. I’m glad that more people want me to play for another year since it’s preferable to them wanting me to stop! Numerous factors are involved.
“I aim to have the best possible finish to my career. I’m having fun right now. I should have a little more time to consider my options since I want to make the best choice. The national squad is in the same boat. Like with my renewal, I’m debating it but I’m not sure.”
Ahead of Euro 2024, he also alluded to a potential comeback to the German national team, saying he was “thinking about it” after quitting the international scene in 2021.
