Will the cost of Deniz Undav surpass that of VfB Stuttgart?
The Swabian team’s and Deniz Undav’s fortunes have entirely turned around after his loan stint at VfB Stuttgart. Stuttgart is aiming for a top-four finish for the first time since 2009, and the German forward is in the greatest form of his career thus far.
Undav’s loan arrangement seems like a match made in heaven because it includes a possible buyout option. The 27-year-old has expressed in the past that he wants to join Stuttgart permanently, saying, “I can say that I feel totally comfortable at VfB.” The supporters are crazy, but we are one team. They have developed into a true team. Of course, I could see myself remaining longer.
The option to buy was valued at €12 million at the time of the loan agreement, which was reportedly too costly for the Bundesliga team.
The buy fee option is contingent on performance, though. To put it simply, the larger the sum, the better the player performs. With 14 goals in the league thus far this year, the cost will only go up. Furthermore, the attacker will probably be included in Germany’s squad for Euro 2024.
Brighton and VfB Sport Director Fabian Wohlgemuth are already discussing other payment options. If Undav’s price becomes unaffordable for Stuttgart when he decides to stay permanently, it would be a great tragedy.
