Max Verstappen expects that the “cool” shock decision made by Lewis Hamilton, his primary opponent in Formula 1, would be a “success” and would never rule out a move to Ferrari.
After this season, Hamilton will quit his long-term partnership with Mercedes in order to satisfy a “childhood dream” and join Charles Leclerc at Ferrari on a multi-year contract starting in 2025.
Verstappen, the three-time world champion, has a contract with Red Bull through the end of 2028, but given the lengthening schedule, he made it clear last year that he might be prepared to leave Formula One after that. He has also expressed a wish to compete in endurance races outside of Formula One.
When asked if he would also like to see a Ferrari transfer, he told Autosport/Motorsport.com that he didn’t want to come across as disrespectful or anything. Although I have a great deal of respect for the Ferrari brand, I’m content with my current situation.
I’m content with the surroundings I’m in; thus, I’m not searching for something different.
However, I’ve learned from my past experiences that I should never say no to anything in my life. However, it’s not even on my mind right now.
But once more, this is only Formula 1. In addition, I wish to pursue interests outside Formula 1.
Verstappen was pleased that Hamilton was moving forward, despite their occasionally sour rivalry that culminated in their 2021 drivers’ championship showdown.
“At the end of the day, if someone wants to drive a Ferrari, especially someone like Lewis who has accomplished so much, if that’s his dream and goal, then we can’t honestly assess why you made that decision because we don’t know what discussions they had at Mercedes or Ferrari, what has been promised, or what they believe is coming,” the speaker went on.
However, if he finds that move pleasing, he ought to proceed; it will appear impressive. Naturally, I wish them the best of luck and success. But right now, you’re in the dark.”
Sergio Perez, Hamilton’s teammate, expressed interest in the same way, pointing out that as Hamilton approaches his departure, their connection may grow more guarded.
“Having a driver who is moving teams, I think the dynamic will be interesting to watch from the outside,” Perez remarked.
Lewis has spent many years there, and he will be bringing a wealth of knowledge to another team. We all know how envious the other teams are when it comes to information sharing.
