The top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz will face Nicolas Jarry in the Argentina Open semifinals.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Italian Andrea Vavassori 7-6 (1), 6-1 on Friday to move on to the Argentina Open semifinals.
On the outdoor clay courts, the 20-year-old No. 2 player found it difficult to handle Vavassori’s intensity in the first set but won easily in the second.
Though it’s rarely a bed of roses, everyone aspires to be ranked first or second. The Spanish player added, “Everyone is working hard to be better than you,” following the game.
On Saturday, Alcaraz will play Nicolas Jarry of Chile. With a right leg injury that forced home crowd favorite Tomás Etcheverry to quit in the third round, third-seeded Jarry sealed his spot.
Before deciding to give up, Etcheverry won the first set 6-4 and lost the second 7-5.
On Saturday, there are two Argentine players in the other semifinal.
Federico Coria defeated Sebastián Baez, a fellow countryman, 6-1, 6-4, while Facundo Diaz Acosta triumphed against Serbian Dusan Lajovic, 6-4, 6-3.
