Raffaele Palladino, the manager of Monza, has provided an explanation for a few of the tactical adjustments he used to defeat AC Milan 4-2 last night.
All of the reports that were going around before the game claimed that Monza would line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation with a center forward, two wing-backs, a double pivot in midfield, two offensive midfielders, and a three-man defense.
They were 2-0 ahead at the half when the red card and deficit forced the Rossoneri to play more directly. It was evident from the start of the game that they were adopting Milan’s 4-2-3-1 configuration. It was a daring decision, to be sure, but one that paid off.
In the end, two goals in the dying minutes from Bondo and Colombo gave the Brianzoli the three points. This was their first victory over Milan since their promotion to the first division, and it was also their first four-goal game in Serie A history.
TMW reported Palladino’s remarks during his post-match press conference following his team’s victory over Milan. Palladino evaluated what was a very successful if dramatic, evening for his team.
Is defeating a major team like Milan the cherry on top now? It was a great evening, and I had hoped for a perfect game. thrilling to triumph with a strong comeback. My guys had demonstrated the proper attitude over the week, and they were deserving of an evening such as this.
“They were quite motivated, which makes the triumph even more lovely and well-earned. It’s good to watch the attackers who took the first defensive position give their all for the team. Congratulations.
Is this your greatest triumph to date?
“It may not be the most exquisite, but it is undoubtedly the one that evoked the strongest feelings in me. We debated whether or not to adjust the formation for the entire week, working twelve hours a day. The fact that my guys were able to decipher a different formation than normal speaks much about their intelligence.
“Although I felt that I had matured as well, I was not pleased with the way the second half was managed and I accepted the draw. However, Monza has a big heart, so I’m satisfied with what transpired at that time.
You asked for courage and a carefree attitude from the squad. Were they visible to you?
“Yes, we tried to win it with Milan and their ten men. It was close; we could have won or lost at 2-2. Their shared goal was to triumph. Even though certain restarts weren’t done perfectly, I’m still happy.
When did you decide to go to a 4-2-3-1 configuration and play that way? “The final decision was made on Thursday after watching Milan play Rennes on Wednesday. The formation change was decided on Wednesday.” We felt that playing directly was the best course of action. Additionally, my guys did a great job of matching and analyzing the formation.
They also hit us hard, but my team was skilled at managing the second balls, knowing when to lean on Djuric instead of going vertical, and knowing when to go vertical. We also did a good job of controlling Milan’s limitations on the flanks. My players were excellent. Silvio Berlusconi, who would have been pleased with us and our accomplishment, deserves the victory.
The best player on the field was Mota. Was this the evening’s Rafael Leao? And how significant is Colombo’s objective?
No, he reminded me of Mota Carvalho. I’ll tell you more: during our text exchange last night, he assured me that he would score a goal. I just informed him why he doesn’t do it anymore (laughs). He is an extremely strong football player, so he needs to keep playing like this.
“Colombo went to two thousand like his teammates, demonstrating his need to play as a starter.” He made things difficult for me, but that worked to my benefit. He came in and made a big improvement, which makes me incredibly happy. He was very motivated. Excellent.
Is Monza trying to move up the standings at this point?
We want to keep fighting, developing, and inspiring. and show that we are unquestionably expanding. We relish the present, but we are unable to pinpoint where we stand in the rankings.
In all honesty, the journey has been amazing; in just one and a half Serie A seasons, we have defeated Juventus, Milan, Inter, and Roma. It indicates that the club is operating at a very high level.
