With Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, and Alisson Becker out, Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Liverpool’s most recent injury concerns.
Jurgen Klopp has provided a bleak injury update, with the Liverpool manager expecting to be without Diogo Jota for months and Alisson Becker for the foreseeable future.
There’s also not much time left for Dominik Szoboszlai to demonstrate his fitness for Sunday’s League Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.
Following Alisson’s hamstring injury sustained during practice the day before, Jota sustained a knee injury during the first half of Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League victory at Brentford.
Because he started the last two games, Caoimhin Kelleher is primed for a prolonged stint in goal, though Liverpool is still assessing the full degree of the goalkeeper’s injury.
Curtis Jones, another midfielder injured over the weekend, will not play for the Reds against Luton Town on Wednesday in the Premier League. Nunez was brought in as a precaution during the halftime break at Brentford, while reports from Egypt indicate that Mohamed Salah sustained an injury when making his return from a more than month-long hamstring injury.
When questioned on Tuesday afternoon with the most recent injury updates, Klopp responded, “Not great, I would like to say no issues but we have some.” Not available: Ali, has a muscular injury; we’re not sure when it will heal, but it won’t happen anytime soon. Next, Diogo is ruled out due to a knee problem. Curtis is ruled out due to a bone/ligament condition.
We’ll handle it day by day with the help of others. We’ll see how the muscle issues turn out tomorrow. You can see who made it and who didn’t if you view the line-up early enough. That’s it.
“With Diogo, it will take months (not weeks),” Klopp continued. And Curtis, you have critical days after an injury, such as day five or day ten, when you reevaluate the circumstances because different people respond to injuries differently. It depends on their current level of pain and other factors. If I wanted to, I couldn’t offer you a timeline. Each responds uniquely. That’s the way things are. It is absurd to speculate when these players are absent.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is among those already ruled out of Sunday’s Wembley extravaganza after Szoboszlai worsened a hamstring ailment earlier this month. Szoboszlai has not yet returned to full training.
Additionally, Klopp stated: “The longer-term players, Trent and Dom, are returning but have not yet participated in team training, so that implies they are also unavailable. That’s the way it is. After the game, I stated unequivocally that the idea is to go for it as long as there are 11 players. It’s day by day with the boys and game by game with the games.”
