Bayern Munich made little progress in their attempts to sign Barcelona defender and third captain Ronald Araujo during the January transfer window.
But the Bundesliga winners are still interested in the Uruguayan international and haven’t forgotten about him as summer approaches.
Araujo is still Bayern Munich’s top concern.
Actually, according to Joaquim Piera of SPORT, Bayern Munich’s top goal in the summer transfer window is still to sign Barcelona veteran Araujo to bolster their defense.
But if their attempts to get the Barcelona sensation are unsuccessful once more, they have designated PSG captain Marquinhos as a backup.
Bayern Munich’s interest in Araujo has primarily come from manager Thomas Tuchel and director Christoph Freund.
It would be fascinating to see if their pursuit of the Uruguayan international is affected now that it has been revealed that Tuchel will depart the team at the end of the current campaign.
He is still their top aim to strengthen the backline for the time being, though.
Araujo is not for sale
The subject of Araujo’s future was discussed during a meeting between his agents, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Crnjar, and Barcelona sporting director Deco earlier this month.
Barcelona made it very clear that Araujo will not be let go by the team, even though they will need to sell players in the summer.
For their part, the agents informed Deco that the defender was content with the team and had no desire to leave.
The framework for the two sides to start negotiating a new contract for the Uruguayan was established.
Because of this, it seems highly unlikely that Araujo will be leaving Barcelona in the summer, even though Bayern still has a big interest in him.
