Pep Guardiola has stated that he hopes to lead a national team in the future and that winning a World Cup is his dream job.
Although he is now coaching Manchester City and hopes to win the Treble for a second time in a row this season, the Spaniard has made references to leaving club football in the future.
Guardiola’s current contract with City runs in 2025, and after that, he may choose to leave the team to take on managerial duties overseas.
In addition to having managed in three of Europe’s top divisions and won trophies with both Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the past, Guardiola has also been connected to opportunities at national teams.
The 53-year-old, who managed several Three Lions stars at City, has been linked as a possible manager for England, although he may decide to lead his native Spain in the future.
When Guardiola decides to declare himself as a possible international contender and explains that he hopes to lead a team to the World Cup or European Championship at some point in his career, he probably won’t be short of admirers.
“A national team,” Guardiola remarked in an interview with ESPN Brazil. To prepare for a World Cup or a European Championship, I would like to coach a national squad. That’s what I would like to have.
“I have no idea who would want me!” Like a club, a national team must want you to work for them, he continued.
The next World Cup is scheduled to take place in Mexico and America in the summer of 2026, one year after Guardiola’s contract at Man City expires.
Guardiola’s future is anticipated to be in his own hands as he plans his future employment in the dugout, so an extension to prolong his tenure at the English giants is also a possibility.
Throughout his established career, he has celebrated 32 major trophies and further disclosed that winning the World Cup is something he has always dreamed of doing.
I had no intention of winning the Champions League or a league championship when I first started. No. I wondered if I had a job. Alright,’ went on Guardiola.
“I want to experience what it’s like to be in a World Cup, a Euro, a Copa América, or something similar.” That’s what I would like to have.
“I would like to have the experience of managing in a World Cup, but I’m not sure when that would be—five, ten, or fifteen years from now.”
