FC Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Getafe on Saturday gave them a brief lead over Girona in the league standings.
As the score indicates, Barça dominated the match throughout, taking no chances in their offensive endeavours. Including a late goal from Fermin Lopez, four players scored on the evening.
However, Barcelona’s defenders should also be commended for containing Getafe’s threat and retaining a critical clean sheet. Of the FC Barcelona players, Pau Cubarsi stood out as one of the best.
Cubarsi’s brilliant display at Getafe
Alongside Ronald Araujo, Cubarsi started at centre back and offered the defensive third’s technical supremacy. He effectively read the game and stopped the Getafe strikers from gaining any attacking momentum.
Cubarsi again performed admirably in Barça’s build-up play. The Catalans were always in the lead thanks to his poise on the ball and ability to break the line with passes.
Players laud Cubarsi profusely
After the game, Cubarsi’s teammates lavished him with affection and appreciation for his brilliant performance against Getafe.
Joao Cancelo, among others, commented on Cubarsi’s Instagram post after the triumph, writing, “Franz Beckenbauer Cubarsí.”
With the phrase, “Pass me a through ball,” Ronald Araujo praised his passing skills. Hector Fort, a fellow young celebrity, also gave Cubarsi praise, saying, “You’re so handsome and so good.”
This came after a number of Barcelona supporters had praised the young player for his play over the previous few weeks, not only against Getafe last night.
Cubarsi appears to be getting better every time he plays and may soon establish himself as a key member of the Barcelona defence.
