Now that Marc Marquez is riding a Ducati, can he surpass Valentino Rossi’s nine world titles?
As per Pol Espargaro, Marc Marquez needs to ride a Ducati to surpass Valentino Rossi’s record for the most titles won.
Rossi, Marquez’s fiercest competitor, has won more world titles than Marquez has (81).
Many knowledgeable observers now believe that Marquez is once again in the running for a ninth championship after switching from Repsol Honda to Gresini Ducati this season.
The decision by Marquez to leave Honda, the team he has won all of his championships with, was met with criticism by his two-season partner, Espargaro.
Years pass by very rapidly in the world of sports, Espargaro said to Marca.
The level moves up quite quickly, particularly in the motorcycle industry where riders become elite class members at a relatively young age.
You could argue, “Well, I only had a year of experience,” and that is true.
“However, a year is a long time, and in competitive sports, it gets much longer in terms of the mental and technical development of new riders who train at the factory.
How you constantly need to adjust and reinvent yourself.
Since a year is a long time, I can understand that.
“He wants to win another world title and he has the ambition to keep winning.”
“His goal is to overtake Valentino Rossi in terms of victories.
That was what it meant to be at Ducati right now if that’s what he wanted to accomplish. That is his intended outcome.
After missing out on the MotoGP lead for three years, Marquez has been identified by many riders on the ’24 grid as one of the title hopefuls.
He is going to ride a one-year-old Desmosedici, the same bike that Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia used to compete for the title last year.
Martin and Bagnaia enter the updated GP24.
Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia are without a doubt the two contenders for the title, according to Espargaro’s prediction.
“Also, use caution with Enea Bastianini, who was unable to reach the summit last year due to unfortunate injuries.
However, “The Beast” seems like he’ll be a rider to watch this year.
Additionally, Brad Binder and Aleix Espargaro would be included.
“And, of course, I must also mention Jorge Martin.”
