Novak Djokovic is the only player to have earned a Career Golden Masters title and the most ATP Masters 1000 championships overall, making him the perfect person to provide commentary on the world’s greatest Masters event.
Being the first player in history to win titles at all nine ATP Masters events, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has 40 Masters 1000 trophies to his name.
The Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, Monte-Carlo Masters, Madrid Open, Italian Open, Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open, Shanghai Masters, and Paris Masters are among such competitions.
Djokovic has won five Indian Wells titles, six Miami Open titles, two Monte Carlo Masters titles, three Madrid Open titles, six Italian Open titles, four Canadian Open titles, three Cincinnati Open titles, four Shanghai Masters titles, and seven Paris Masters. This is his record at each of those tournaments.
Not only is he the only player who has attained the Career Golden Masters, but he has accomplished it twice as well.
Which of the Masters events, in the words of the legendary tennis player, is “one of the best tournaments in the world”?
Before his comeback to Indian Wells, also referred to as Tennis Paradise, Djokovic had called the California tournament the greatest.
“It’s been five years since my last Indian Wells match, and it’s far too long to miss out on the Tennis Paradise tournament—indisputably one of the greatest in the world,” he remarked.
It’s perhaps the Masters event that many players, including myself, look forward to the most. I am very excited to return to the tour and perform for some of the greatest tennis fans out there.
In the 2008 Indian Wells Masters, Djokovic won his maiden championship after overcoming American Mardy Fish in three sets. His next triumph came in 2011 after he overcame Rafael Nadal in three sets. In 2014, he won three consecutive, the first two against Roger Federer going to overtime. In 2016, he defeated Milos Raonic in straight sets.
When I initially took home the trophy in Indian Wells in 2008, it was one of the biggest victories of my career. Recalling the finals, I played Mardy Fish.
“I had the good fortune to win the competition four more times, and I had some incredible matches against Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and many other legendary players in the Indian Wells tournament finals.” It’s truly exciting for me to return.
Naturally, Djokovic was unable to attend the last two editions since he could not meet the immunization criteria for entry into the United States, and he chose not to participate in the 2021 event.
