The fight between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney could already be called off because of the challenger’s drug use.
Devin Haney called Ryan Garcia “drunk as a skunk” during this week’s press appearance in New York. Garcia then went on to use marijuana and participate in a live social media talk.
Now, the WBC super lightweight champion has threatened to cancel the next second leg of the press trip in Los Angeles.
Ryan Garcia discloses his lifestyle
In response to a question about who was receiving instruction during the live stream, Garcia told his co-host, “Amazing, bro.” “Training well, looking. I’m laughing so hard because I’m so stoned!
He went on, “I know so many stories of top athletes in the world that do crazier s*** than me and be the best in the world,” in response to Haney’s assertion that he was intoxicated.
“I’m not a hostile informant. I will remain silent. Upon completion of the day. I drink, smoke pot, box, and I’m the greatest.
“I’m not going to that press conference tomorrow,” declared Haney in response to what she saw in Garcia’s actions. Ryan is a waste of time—mine and everyone else’s.
Shortly after meeting Haney in person in New York, Garcia’s antics caused him to become the biggest trending topic.
“Kingry” had declared in the past that he was not interested in fighting in New York. He said to the crowd that he was trying to get the fight moved to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Fans were promised by promoter Oscar De La Hoya that this would not occur. But there was a noticeable tension during the news conference.
Devin Haney is asked to arrange Garcia’s replacement.
A few hours later, others think Garcia might be trying to ruin himself to avoid playing Haney at the Barclays Centre.
In an attempt to avoid fighting in New York and having to pay those taxes, Ryan Garcia is attempting to ruin the match. It’s obvious what the play is. Either that or he is aware that April 20 is his dead meat.
Whatever the issue, there are a lot of unanswered questions when a professional athlete starts to smoke and drink seven weeks before a public battle.
Garica may leave Haney behind if he requires assistance, as he has in the past with mental health issues. The fight is in serious jeopardy and might not take place in the spring if things keep getting worse.
Garcia won’t be at full fitness if he keeps up his current behavior, therefore Haney has already been urged to find a replacement.
