Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, thinks Mykhaylo Mudryk can still get better despite his unusual goal against Leeds on Wednesday in the FA Cup fifth round.
Mykhaylo Mudryk scored goals against Leeds, but Mauricio Pochettino has asked him to start playing for the club.
On Wednesday night, Mykhaylo Mudryk scored the second goal for the Blues in their FA Cup fifth-round matchup. He completed ninety minutes of play before being replaced by Jimi Tauriainen, just after Conor Gallagher’s last-minute winner.
Since costing £89 million to acquire in the January transfer window, the winger has had terrible success. In his 44 games since joining the Blues, he has only managed five goals and five assists.
On Wednesday night, he swept home to give the Blues a lead, making one of the five strikes. However, Pochettino has now insisted that the Ukrainians display greater team spirit going forward.
Mudryk is incredibly talented. However, he must realize that football is a team sport. You use your skill to benefit the squad. You will need time for it. But Mudryk isn’t the only one, according to Pochettino.
Because they are so young, there are a few other players. Sometimes they [forget] that they have to work hard, press, and regain their place. It is crucial, of course, that he scored to boost his self-esteem.”
Mateo Joseph gave Leeds the lead after just eight minutes after a terrible mistake by Alex Disasi, forcing the hosts to rally from behind. Before Nicolas Jackson gave the Blues the lead, Mudryk quickly tied the score.
After the interval, though, they were pinned back as Joseph headed in for his second of the evening at the far post. Just before injury time, Gallagher scored a winner off the bench, sending Pochettino into a relieved state of mind as it appeared that the match might go into overtime.
“This outcome was necessary. Not a very good performance. Of course, Leeds deserves praise; they are a confident, potent club that is dominating the Championship and is close to the top of the standings “.
“We found it difficult, made worse by the fact that you give up after a short while. However, I believe the team can learn from the character we displayed in the wake of this incident, and we’re ultimately really happy.
“We accomplished our goal of reaching the quarterfinals by avoiding extra time, scoring at the end, and winning. Having only 72 hours to recover after losing a final in extra time is never easy. That’s never easy to do.
“The guys put in a tremendous effort today, and I want to thank them for it. Throughout the season, the squad must strike the correct balance, and you need time for them to perform.”
