Hyundai has reacted to the World Motor Sport Council meeting this week’s raft of proposals from the FIA regarding the World Rally Championship’s future.
The WRC Working Group has presented a comprehensive roadmap that includes modifications to Rally1 cars, the removal of hybrid power, the installation of a smaller turbo restrictor, and restrictions on aerodynamics.
In addition, a Rally2-plus formula will be available, featuring an upgrade kit that includes a bigger exhaust, better aerodynamics, a larger restrictor, and an optional paddle shift gearbox.
Cyril Abiteboul, the head of the Hyundai team, acknowledged that patience would be required as he began talks with the parent corporation of the motorsport section in Korea, given the vast array of changes that were being proposed all at once and the move away from hybrid power.
It will take some time to evaluate and think through these comprehensive ideas from the FIA because of their breadth, complexity, and depth, stated Abiteboul. “We also anticipate getting further information from the FIA to help with this procedure.
“We will thoroughly examine our short- to mid-term objectives to evaluate these recommendations. This will happen between Hyundai Motorsport and Hyundai Motor Company.
“We look forward to further discussions with the FIA, the WRC promoter, and our fellow WRC competitors as part of this process.”
Hyundai was in favor of eliminating hybrid systems from Rally1 cars, according to WRC Working Group leader David Richards, during a call with a small group of media, including DirtFish.
Richards stated, “We had a lengthy conversation about that with Cyril from Hyundai. “He was totally in favor of getting rid of the hybrid system.”
