John Stones is against Liverpool winning four trophies in the last several years under Jurgen Klopp.
John Stones, a defender for Manchester City, has stated that he and his colleagues will not permit Jurgen Klopp to have four championships to cap off his tenure as Liverpool manager.
Klopp said in late January that, after an incredibly successful tenure at Anfield, he will be leaving at the end of the 2023–2024 season. After defeating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, the Reds won their first trophy of the season, and they have a good chance of winning three more this year.
However, City star Stones acknowledged in an interview with The Times that he and his colleagues are out to ruin Klopp’s farewell tour and make sure they don’t win every last trophy.
“Oh no, that’s wrong. I can’t allow that to occur!” Stones stated that Liverpool ended the Klopp era by winning four titles. “It’s working in our favor that teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, who have been pushing us for the trophies, are also pushing us back.” We need to improve. It’s a constructive rivalry.
“Hunger is the cause. Don’t look back and do your best. See, when my profession comes to an end—which should be far in the future—I want to be able to look back and appreciate all the things I had as a child that I never would have imagined having.
“I don’t care about that [living in a large house or his lifestyle]. I want the best life possible for my family and children, but I’m talking about football accomplishments here. We’re still all about playing football outside in the park or on the street, eager to win regardless of the opposition. I never imagined that I would be able to participate in these tournaments or take home so many awards. I therefore want to do it even more after doing it. Repeat the action. I still have all of the Barnsley lads within me.”
“Winning trophies sets something off inside you,” Stones continued. That sensation! You desire it once more. It’s yearning and hunger. That is not appropriate. We have consistently competed for the Premier League for the past six or seven seasons, and we have also consistently made it to the FA Cup semifinals and finals, the Champions League, and, most recently, the Carabao Cup four times in a row.
The difficulty of maintaining something over an extended period is so underappreciated. It’s something I’m happy about. This hunger.
