FC Porto, a formidable team in Portugal, appears to be the biggest bidder for Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye, therefore his future at FC Barcelona is looking dubious.
The 19-year-old center back, who has been a huge hit for Barça Atletic this season, is available for a transfer to Porto, where an offer of €15 million is expected by the end of this week.
The director of Barcelona meets the delegates of Faye
At the club’s Ciutat Esportiva campus this morning, Barcelona director Deco met with Mikayil Faye’s agents, according to SPORT, as Porto’s interest in the player grows.
As a result of Porto’s intense interest, Deco’s representatives, Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara, met with him earlier today in Barcelona to talk about his circumstances.
Faye joined Barça only last summer, but he made a name for himself as a dependable player for Rafa Marquez’s backup squad almost away.
Due to the left-footed defender’s impressive performances and the Catalans’ desire to offload players by June 30th, the young player may be heading out.
For his part, Faye has made it plain that he will only continue at Barcelona if Hansi Flick uses him in the starting lineup. The defender would rather see something different if not.
Owing to the overscheduling of central defenders in the starting lineup, Faye’s future is not assured, and as a result, he could leave the team.
The defender’s most likely destination is now Porto, as the Portuguese team is prepared to make a €15 million offer for him.
Negotiations are hampered, meanwhile, by Barcelona’s insistence on including a repurchase mechanism for Faye, since Porto isn’t totally on board with that notion.
For his part, the defender is now concentrated on assisting Barcelona Athletic’s promotion to La Liga 2, since the playoff final versus Cordoba is now tied 1-1 following the first leg.
But it appears like a matter of time until his future is determined, in one way or another.
