After agreeing to a new, long-term contract, Irish defender Alex Murphy feels he can see a road to playing regularly for Newcastle United’s first team.
Murphy, 19, has come a long way since moving to Newcastle from Galway United in 2022. He has made two appearances in the Premier League this year, and his reward is a new deal.
Murphy told club reporters, “I’m really excited to sign a new contract here and secure my future with the club.”
Since about two years ago, when I originally signed, I have enjoyed every second of it. Working with both the Academy and the first team has given me the opportunity to collaborate with some incredible players and coaches, and I am incredibly appreciative of the chances that have been presented to me.
“Being a young player at this club is exciting right now; the sheer number of players who have made their first-team debuts this season shows that there is a pathway.” All I have to do is keep up my diligent work, and maybe I can build on my current accomplishments.
The manager, Eddie Howe, who made Murphy’s debut against Chelsea in November, stated that the extension was well-deserved.
“Seeing Alex sign a new, long-term contract here makes me very happy. Howe remarked, “It’s well-deserved recognition for the work he’s put in throughout the season.”
After a fantastic preseason in America, he has only gotten better, making his Premier League debut and earning a spot in our matchday teams every time.
“We think highly of Alex because he puts in a great amount of effort every day and is aware that more opportunities will present themselves if he keeps up his good work.”
