Morgan Sanson, a midfielder for Aston Villa, has officially left the team and moved permanently to Nice.
After a terrible stint at Aston Villa, Morgan Sanson says he is delighted to have finalised his permanent move to Nice. Sanson, a midfielder, arrived at the team in January 2021 from Marseille, but he had trouble making an impression on the team as Steven Gerrard and Dean Smith gradually made improvements.
Sanson, who scored in the team’s 2-1 FA Cup loss to Stevenage in January of last year, was permitted to go on loan to Strasbourg by current manager Unai Emery the same month, but a permanent agreement could not be reached. Rather, this past summer, Sanson went back to his home country of France while on loan with Nice, and there were agreements in place that suggested a long-term agreement was probably in the works.
Sanson, 29, has agreed to a three-year contract with Nice after the team completed a top-five finish in Ligue 1 and after playing a sufficient number of games in the league. On Wednesday, Villa and Nice officially announced the transfer, which had been rumoured over the weekend.
With one year remaining on his contract, the midfield player—who cost Villa approximately £14 million—made just 23 appearances in a claret and blue shirt, with just six of those appearances coming in the Premier League. Villa will have suffered a setback, but at least they have cut another unproductive player from their payroll.
“Maintaining the adventure at Nice is an absolute pleasure,” Sanson stated. “It was obvious to me from the beginning, and I’m thrilled that our goals were met and the universe cooperated. Though the season isn’t yet over, it’s already been a success.
“The club is ambitious, we have some major tasks ahead of us, and we’re going to play football in Europe again. I’m hoping for a successful conclusion and at least as nice of a future.
