Malo Gusto has stated unequivocally that Mauricio Pochettino should remain Chelsea’s manager for the upcoming campaign. After winning against Brighton on Wednesday night, the Argentine raised more doubts about his future when he was asked if placing sixth would be sufficient to preserve his job. He answered, “I don’t know.”
Even though skipper Reece James was sent off late in the game, the Blues defeated the Seagulls 2-1 on the road. The triumph helps Pochettino’s cause even more as he tries to silence his sceptics with a successful season finale.
Chelsea is in fourth place in the Premier League standings since January 1st, four points ahead of Newcastle and five behind Liverpool despite having played one fewer game than both teams. After mounting a two-goal comeback to draw away at Aston Villa, the Londoners have won each of their previous four games.
As a result, they have surpassed Manchester United and Newcastle in the race to go to Europe. However, they are bearing the cost of a poor start, as they only managed to win three of their first ten games.
After finishing 12th the previous season, Chelsea is now aiming to finish as high as fifth, and Gusto says the players are entirely behind Pochettino. At the end of the season, the Blues’ board will meet with the former Tottenham coach to make a decision on his future.
Gusto, the right-back, stated, “The most important thing is that we have to support the coaching staff.” “I believe that’s the reason we’ve played better these past few games.
“We need to stay all together and keep focused on our job.” The Frenchman is optimistic about Chelsea’s future under Pochettino, despite the fact that the team has been severely damaged by injuries this season.
“We can be one of the best teams in the Premier League,” Gusto stated. “We already know that we are really talented. We did not have a very nice season.
“We already know that the start of the season was a little bit complicated but we need to finish in a good way.” Despite a poor campaign, Gusto has been one of Chelsea’s biggest success stories and has thrived under Pochettino.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding his job, the manager recently stated that he is making plans for the upcoming season. After the victory over Brighton, someone questioned Pochettino if placing sixth would keep him at Stamford Bridge, to which he replied, “I don’t know.”
We have been conversing throughout the season, but it seems like nobody is listening to me or values what I have to say. People are just interested in rumours and similar stuff.
“It doesn’t matter; for me, winning games is what matters most. With everything going on, it has not been easy. Despite everything, in just one season, I am incredibly proud of the team.”
