Manchester City has announced that Ederson will be out due to injury for both the impending FA Cup final and the last day of the Premier League season.
During Tuesday night’s vital 2-0 victory against Tottenham, Pep Guardiola’s first-choice custodian brutally collided with Cristian Romero at the back post, fracturing his right eye socket somewhat, according to scans.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Ederson received extensive treatment on the field. He started the game and, much to his dismay, was replaced a short while later by deputy Stefan Ortega, who produced a few outstanding saves to propel City to the verge of an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title.
On this weekend’s final day of the Premier League, Ortega will continue to fill in for Ederson as City hosts West Ham at the Etihad Stadium. The team knows that a victory—or the failure of title rivals Arsenal to defeat Everton in north London—would result in their sixth domestic championship in the previous seven years.
The German will also return to action on May 25 at Wembley, where City will try to defeat cross-town rivals Manchester United in a rematch of last year’s FA Cup final in order to win the trophy again in a row.
The announcement from Manchester City on Thursday stated, “Manchester City can confirm that Ederson will miss the final two games of the season due to a small fracture of his eye socket.”
The injury to the Brazilian custodian happened on Tuesday night during our 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, examinations of the afflicted area have shown that he has a little fracture in the socket of his right eye.
“Ederson will not be able to participate in any more games during the 2023–2024 season due to the injury. Ederson is well-wished for a quick recovery by everyone at the Club.
