The standout player for Manchester United, Marcus Rashford, nearly got into a fight with a Newcastle United supporter during their penultimate Premier League match of the year.
While United was warming up, video captures Rashford’s attention being drawn to something that a supporter shouted from the stands. He responds to the jibe with evident displeasure, then leaves at Christian Eriksen’s advice. Rashford is also comforted by Antony as he walks away from the incident.
A fan can be heard calling him a “d***head” and shouting obscenities at him as he is leaving. It’s unknown what was stated before to cause the United Academy graduate to respond in this way.
For United this season, Rashford has not been at his best. In 32 Premier League appearances thus far, the 26-year-old has racked up two assists in addition to seven goals. This is a far cry from his 17 goals and five assists from the previous campaign.
He has also experienced difficulties both on and off the pitch. Rashford received disciplinary action from the team earlier in the season for skipping practice after spending the night in Belfast. Additionally, he has been the target of booing from certain United supporters during games this season.
However, the majority of United supporters have strongly denounced Rashford’s mistreatment, and after the incident, fans of other teams have also come out in favour of him.
Given his continuously poor performance, it is quite doubtful that he will travel to Euro 2024 with the rest of the England team. It might be a quiet summer for him because Gareth Southgate believes that players like Anthony Gordon, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer are far better than him.
