TyC Sports reports that Julián Álvarez of Manchester City may miss the beginning of the upcoming season because he is scheduled to represent Argentina in the Olympics.
Nicolás Otamendi, a defender for Benfica and star player for Manchester City, is one of the three players over 23 that Argentina U23 manager Javier Mascherano has chosen to include in his roster. The third player is still up for grabs.
It is informed that the centre-back and the striker have each agreed to represent their nation in the summer Olympics by signing deals with Manchester City and Benfica, respectively.
The two were on Argentina’s World Cup-winning team and have already been added to Lionel Scaloni’s Copa América squad for June.
One week before the Premier League’s commencement, Paris will host the Olympics from July 26 to August 11. Due to his involvement in this event, the 24-year-old striker will undoubtedly miss Manchester City’s preseason.
Mascherano has until July 1st to reveal his final roster. Stated differently, the official announcement of the Manchester City player’s Olympic participation is expected to occur in more than a month.
